Wheatfield was critical to maintaining Sickles' III Corps position in the Peach Orchard and along the Emmitsburg Road. This is the site of the Rose Farm, Rose Woods, Stony Hill and the Wheatfield. The final Confederate assault captured the Wheatfield in the early evening.
