The Second Battle of Bull Run or Battle of Second Manassas was fought August 28–30, 1862. It was the culmination of the Northern Virginia Campaign waged by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia against Union MG John Pope's Army of Virginia, and a battle of much larger scale and numbers than the First Battle of Bull Run (or First Manassas) fought on July 21, 1861 on the same ground.

The battlefield handling of the Union forces by MG Pope was a major reason for the Confederate victory. There were a series of vague orders and poor communications between various commands that lead to Union forces being in a poor position to fend off a late day attack on August 30th by Confederate MG Longstreet.

One interesting outcome of this battle was the court-martial of MG Fitz-John Porter.
